Today I am revisiting a play list I made some time ago. It is populated by music that i have been listening to for at least 20 years. This, is itself a bittersweet study in aging, but also a joyful recognition of various moments in my life. I tend to recall very specific moments when I listen to a song. Whether that is the first time I heard a particular song or the foundation of some core memory.

As a result while listening to this playlist various moments come back full force.

Thumb - Dinosaur Jr. (outside the starlite motel going to see a girlfriend i didn’t like)
Schizophrenia - Sonic Youth (walking home from my job at a pizza place at 1 am on a winter night)
Girlfriend - Matthew Sweet (vibing stereo lights in a young ladies basement)
Holiday in Cambodia - Dead Kennedys (song #1 on side two of a mix tape made by Danz from Chicago as i walked the college quad)
Sweetness - Yes (going to see buffalo 66 on houston in NYC and seeing VIncent handing out flyers)
Basketcase - The Vindictives (listening to this on vinyl in a spare room of a 1920s apt with a tiny 1960’s portable tv with just static on.)
I Get Along Without You Very Well - Billie Holiday (rocking my daughter to sleep on a warm late summer day the light filtering through white cotton curtains)
Food, Sickles and Girls - The Mummies (sitting in a friends west suburban st louis upper middle class den, recording the lp to tape)
Bad Day - Samiam (driving northbound on 270 in the middle of a work day after picking up some supplies from another location for the cafe)
Tiger Lily - Luna (sitting in a downtown park with a lady and noticing all the little bottles of jack and knowing a non 0 number were probably from her before i showed up)
etc etc… lot’s of thoughts and feelings….enjoy the tunes
